North West Triathlon England Awards

On 21st January 2017 Katie Hewison, along with many athletes from Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club, picked up awards at the Junior North West Triathlon England Presentation evening for their successes across the 2016 Triathlon season.

Katie was awarded the ‘North West Children’s Coach of the Year Award.’  Katie became involved in coaching juniors back in February 2016 through volunteering her time to help out at her local club, Chorley Athletic and Triathlon Club – which was in fact her very first running club!  The junior section has seen a huge boost in recent years with the inclusion of a triathlon section and this is testament to all of the hard work put in from the many other coaches, parents and volunteers.  Katie’s role at the club has involved encouraging more performance exit routes for the juniors along with developing the pathways across the club.  Two Chorley athletes, Daniel Lilley and Jacob Hughes, were selected to represent the North West Team at the Inter Regional Championships in Strathclyde where Katie was also asked to attend as a regional coach.

“I was asked as a favour to help out at the club last year by one of the coaches and to be honest its been one of the most rewarding things I have done.  Working with so many inspiring, motivated young people and other volunteers is very enjoyable and I am looking forward to more great things this year for the club and the juniors across the North West!”
